The First Responder Network Authority (FirstNet) Board approved its Fiscal Year 2018 budget of $73.5 million. The focus is on funding the deployment, operation and oversight of its nationwide broadband public safety network. The budget also includes money to support public safety outreach and lab and field trials.

“This budget reflects strong financial management and allows us to continue making progress in the coming year toward delivering public safety’s network,” said FirstNet CEO Mike Poth in the announcement.

The board allocated $73.5 million for developments that support operation and oversight of the network, as well as customer outreach, product marketing, and future improvements. That amount marks a 13 percent decrease over FirstNet’s current funding level and is a result of establishing a public-private partnership with AT&T.
