Len Forkas, President
Len Forkas, a 20-year veteran in the wireless infrastructure industry, founded Milestone Communications in 2001. The Reston, VA-based company started small, focusing on a handful of projects near its Washington, DC base. Today, Milestone operates in six states and has partnerships with over 50 municipal, school and utility landowners.
Before Milestone Communications, Len had a successful career in commercial real estate. In 1996, he formed Milestone Communities Inc., a Washington, DC-based real estate development company. His past experience also includes senior management positions at Bank of America, Weyerhaeuser Real Estate Company and Oxford Development Corp.
Len, an active member of the Wireless Infrastructure Association (WIA), serves as a co-leader of the IDF, the association’s peer group for entrepreneurs in the wireless tower industry. He is the chair for the Fairfax County Public School Foundation and has served on the boards for YMCA of Metro DC and the Northern Virginia Chamber of Commerce. He is a former trustee of the Urban Land Institute.
One year after he started Milestone Communications, Len founded Hopecam, Inc., a Reston, VA-based nonprofit that uses webcam technology to connect homebound children undergoing treatment for cancer to their friends at school. He continues to stay involved in Hopecam, serving as the chairman for the charity’s 15-member Board of Directors.
He is a popular leadership speaker and the author of What Spins the Wheel, a book that shares the team building lessons he learned while competing solo in Race Across America (a 3,000 mile, coast-to-coast event described as “the toughest bike race in the world”). He has appeared on CNN, Anderson Cooper 360, Fox & Friends and the Washington DC affiliates of ABC and FOX.
Len received an MBA from The American University and graduated from the College of Architecture at Ball State University.
